More than just a commercial juggernaut—it has since sold over six million copies— Purple was a creative leap forward. Produced once again by Brendan O'Brien at Atlanta's Southern Tracks studio, the album moved beyond the raw aggression of its predecessor, incorporating elements of psychedelia, blues, and even country into its grunge foundation. The album spawned timeless singles, with both "Vasoline" and "Interstate Love Song" reaching number one on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, while "Big Empty" cracked the top ten on the same chart.
