The story takes place several years after the events of the previous film. Kaiji (Kazunari Ninomiya) is now a successful businessman who has managed to redeem himself after his previous encounters with the mysterious and wealthy group, the "Poker Group". However, his life is turned upside down when he receives a mysterious invitation to participate in a final game, which promises to grant him a massive fortune.
Unlike the first two films which adapted specific manga arcs, Kaiji: Final Game features a completely original story written by the manga’s creator, Nobuyuki Fukumoto himself. Set in 2020, immediately after the Tokyo Olympics, Japan’s economy has collapsed into chaos. Hyperinflation, government insolvency, and widespread exploitation have created a society where the rich prey on the desperate. This bleak setting is the perfect backdrop for Kaiji's latest gamble.
