Instead, the printer uses a digital counter that estimates waste ink volume based on the number of pages printed and cleaning cycles run. Once this digital counter reaches 100%, the printer locks itself down to prevent excess ink from overflowing, leaking onto your desk, or short-circuiting the internal electronics. If you reset the counter without replacing or cleaning the physical sponges, the accumulated waste ink will eventually overflow out of the bottom of your printer, potentially ruining your desk, carpet, or internal electronic circuits.
