The final blow came on October 9, 1976, when a catastrophic flood ravaged Frederick County. The deluge destroyed invaluable historical archives stored in a basement, wiping out irreplaceable photos and films, and broke the spirit of many who lived and worked there.
We find the answer in the small escapes. The window that frames a piece of sky. The bird that migrates but returns. The novel read so many times it becomes a place of its own. The song played on repeat until it stops being sound and becomes a room.
